Over 250 individuals have been detained in Charlotte, North Carolina, as part of ongoing federal immigration control operations, according to authority reports.
Widening Federal Measures
Charlotte marks the most recent American city to undergo increased federal deployment, following analogous actions in larger metropolitan areas like Chicago and Los Angeles previously. Federal authorities have claimed that those arrested include criminal elements and gang members.
Community Opposition
Nonetheless, elected officials and residents have actively protested the detainments, which federal agencies have termed "Operation Charlotte's Web". The state's top elected official has alleged that residents are being targeted based on their skin color.
"We've observed covered, heavily armed officers in military-style attire driving unmarked vehicles, targeting American residents based on their appearance, utilizing racial profiling and arresting arbitrary people in parking areas," stated the chief executive. "This strategy is not enhancing our safety."
Administration Position
In a recently issued declaration, a federal spokesperson claimed that the campaign has resulted in the detention of "among the most hazardous criminal illegal immigrants", encompassing street gang participants.

Continuing Actions
Federal agencies have not revealed how long the operations will continue. Chicago's operation commenced in September and continues active. Comparable with other cities experiencing immigration measures, some migrants in Charlotte are remaining indoors due to apprehension about federal officers in the community, according to local media.
The state governor stated he's tracking information that the campaign will move to Raleigh, a different North Carolina urban center, subsequently.
